Remember the “3″ steps. Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster.
The stroke victim may suffer brain damage when people near by fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
- Ask the individual to SMILE.
- Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
- Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE coherently.
If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions.
They presented their conclusions at the American Stroke Association’s annual meeting last February. Widespread use of this test could result in prompt diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage.
Hi Harry,
I’m delighted to have received your email and learn that you are starting your own website. I did Weight Watchers in your group with my friends Ted and Nancy Johanson, two or three years ago. I also met you at Connie Kiradjieff’s funeral. My wonderful husband, Andy Wolf played with Connie in the CSO, and is now 94 and a half and still enjoying life.
You are a very gifted leader, and I want to follow your website. Another excellent one is Zonya’s Health Bites. If you don’t know her, check it out.
Best wishes for happy holidays and a happy, healthy New Year!

I had a stroke in 1980 when my last child was three years old. I was 37 years old. As you see it doesn’t just happen to older people. Learn the three ways to tell a Stroke it may save a life.
